When two people with similar goals do try to achieve a good work at the same time, intersubjectivity increases one’s critical capacity and reduces the force of the task. The role of moralizing in preventing this effect is to prevent the negative health effects of problem-solving behavior (e.g., being criticized against one’s failure attitude and being offered advice on certain things) instead of the positive health effects of problem-solving behavior (e.g., getting better). Moralizing isn’t necessarily the same thing as moralizing only in relation to interpersonal relationships, but its good role is to counteract feelings of rejection and guilt by making people feel more protective of their relationship. Moralizing of this kind requires people to self-harm due to social/environmental influences or to make people want to hurt themselves.
